NEWSLETTER ON THE LABOUR MARKET

02 agosto 2019

The Newsletter on the Labour Market talks about Integration of the long-term unemployed, the hypothesis of the establishment of an Authority for “Free movement of work in Europe", the Extraordinary Plan for strengthening employment centers and active labour policies, the new regional law of Lazio on the Gig economy, and the new European directive on work life balance.

Two articles delve into the problem of violations of workers' rights and guidelines to identify "black" work.

On the minimum wage, in the editorial we read that unlike many European Countries in which the legal minimum wage applies, the Italian legal system is built around the constitutional principle of the right to a remuneration that must be proportionate to the quality and quantity of the work performed , and sufficient to guarantee the satisfaction of the needs of the worker and his family.

The Italian system is difficult to compare with others. Some ISTAT evaluations, that monitor pay dynamics, show an average minimum wage among the highest in Europe. This would argue in favor of the effectiveness of Italian industrial relations system in ensuring minimum wages and reducing wage dispersion.
