ITALY’S REPORT ON PRODUCTIVITY PRESENTED AT THE OECD GLOBAL FORUM ON PRODUCTIVITY

16 settembre 2025

The Annual Report on Productivity has been prepared by the National Productivity Committee, established within CNEL

Italy’s Annual Report on Productivity is being presented today in London at the OECD Global Forum on Productivity by CNEL Councillor Carlo Altomonte. The report was prepared by the National Productivity Committee, coordinated by Altomonte, which was established within CNEL in implementation of the Council of the European Union Recommendation of 20 September 2016.
The OECD Global Forum on Productivity is the foremost international forum fostering cooperation among public institutions to support and implement policies aimed at enhancing productivity.

This reflects the growing international recognition of the importance of productivity in the European debate, particularly since the financial crisis of 2008–2012, when a marked divergence in growth and investment levels between the United States and the European Union became evident. In this framework, the 2016 Recommendation invited Member States to establish National Productivity Committees to promote targeted structural reforms that support productivity growth. In accordance with EU requirements that the Productivity Committee be entrusted to an independent body, it was established within CNEL in July 2024, following amendments to the Regulations on organs, organisation, and procedures.

The 2025 Annual Report on Productivity was presented in Italy on 10 September at Villa Lubin.
